CANADA AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS

CACN Program

MACN Soccer tournament

The Manitoba African Cup of Nations (MACN) soccer tournament is one of the biggest sporting events in Manitoba and aims to bring the province's diverse communities closer together through the universal language of soccer. The 2022 tournament featured 12 communities across Manitoba. Senegal, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Cote d'Ivoire, Zambia, Togo, Cameroon, South Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ghana compete for the MACN Cup. Team Nigeria won the eight-week-long soccer tournament held between July and September of 2022. The tournament provided 15 youths with summer employment, promoted 30 local businesses, utilized the services of 45 volunteers, and drew more than 7000 spectators.

Black Youth Award Night

Each year, CACN hosts the Black Youth Award Night. This event is a celebration of the incredible achievements made by young black Manitobans in various fields. This event recognizes the accomplishments of black youth in sports, politics, education, tech, healthcare, and business. The event inspires and encourages other black youth to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence in their chosen fields. The award night also provides a platform for networking. It encourages young people to continue striving for excellence. It serves as a reminder of the positive impact that black youth can have on society when allowed to excel. It is an evening of celebration and inspiration, honouring the accomplishments of our young people and encouraging them to continue to reach for the stars. The event features African talking drums, dancers, and local artists. This event also celebrates the players, teams, communities, coaches, and volunteers that participated in the just concluded African Cup of Nations Tournament while also raising funds for a local charity, Sports Without Boundaries, which provides free sporting programs for BIPOC youth across Canada. This year's Black Youth Award Night will be hosted on Friday, August 25th, 2023, at Centro Caboto Centre.

Nations Cup ( Indoor tournament )

In recognition of Canada's diversity and multiculturalism, CACN has broadened its scope beyond Manitoba's black communities by hosting an indoor ‘’Nations Cup Tournament’’ featuring teams from all the diverse countries represented in Manitoba competing for the Nations Cup. Our first year 2022 Nations Cup featured 12 communities across Manitoba: Nigeria, Chile, Brazil, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, India, Haiti, Italy, Canada, and the Central African Republic. This indoor soccer tournament, which will take place every year from December to January, aims to bring all communities in Manitoba together in a friendly but competitive soccer game while also providing a platform for cultural exchange and the formation of lasting connections.
